Smartvel, a travel content technology provider, has acquired destination content specialist ArrivalGuides from Lion Ventures.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Smartvel said the acquisition would enable it to “expand our content and explore new opportunities.”

ArrivalGuides provides destination guides in multiple languages from tourism boards and travel experts for travel brands to integrate into their websites, mobile applications and marketing campaigns.

The company was founded by Magnus Aideborn and Ola Zetterlöf in 2004 and acquired by Lonely Planet in 2019. It was then acquired back by Aideborn and Zetterlöf via their company Lion Ventures in 2021.

Spain-based Smartvel’s technology helps travel companies provide customers with content and personalized offers at the right time.

Iñigo Valenzuela, CEO of Smartvel, said, “ArrivalGuides delivers the widest content in the industry, and we are delighted to announce this latest acquisition. Our [artificial intelligence]-enriched solutions enable travel businesses to provide relevant information travelers need at every stage of their journey, including prices and improving the SEO, from planning to the final destination.”

Aideborn and Zetterlöf from Lion Ventures said, “Our aim has always been to deliver the best content in the industry, and we have built a hub with self-service capabilities and an innovative process to curate content. Smartvel is at the forefront of travel content AI technology, and together we will provide innovative ways to deliver content in exciting new ways. At Lion Ventures we are excited that this is our first exit after COVID.”
